Supporting Small Businesses During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Businesses all around the world have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. At Horderly, we want to do our part by supporting the local businesses that help our communities thrive.

As curfews become the new normal, and new restrictions are put in place for all sorts of businesses, it’s important to think of new ways to support those affected.

Here are a few suggestions on how we can keep our communities and local businesses afloat:

Purchase Gift Cards

Buying gift cards to restaurants or other small businesses in your area right now can go a long way. Even though you may not be dining in or shopping in-store for the foreseeable future, the gift card income is liquid funds that those businesses can use to pay expenses like rent, utilities or keep loyal employees on staff. Give Generous Tips

If you’re able, a tip can go a long way for hourly workers. Consider giving more than you normally would when ordering in. A lot of hospitality workers rely on tips to make ends meet, so with a decrease in activity, these workers will surely be struggling for months to come.

Write Reviews

While most of us are cooped up inside – either socially distancing ourselves, or abiding by mandatory state curfews – consider spending some time each day writing reviews on Yelp or other social media sites for your favorite local hot spots. The positive support and affirmation will help that business thrive once social activity picks up again – especially in areas that rely on tourism.

Shop Online (With A Purpose)

Before shopping at a superstore or large chain, look at your shopping list and see if any items would be carried at a local store. If so, try shopping from that vendor before outsourcing to larger companies.

Use Virtual Services

Lots of small businesses are successfully pivoting into the virtual space. Just like Horderly has launched virtual organizing, some of our friends and partners are doing the same!
