Raise your hand if you love The Laundress! We have always been a fan of their lovely, eco-friendly products, however, they are sure at the top of our list now that they have launched their new Organization & Home Storage line! We recently had the pleasure of working with their new organizing products in a very fun collaboration with Grace Atwood from The Stripe.

We started out by having Grace send us photos of her closets so that we could get a sense of what we were working with, her space and her style. (We strategize throughout the entire process and it starts from the minute we see photos!) Grace has 3 different “closet” areas. She has a lovely shoe and bag closet, a small closet, and a large makeshift closet beside her living room. We couldn’t wait to get started and we could already envision ways that the new Laundress Home Organization products were going to help maximize her closets!

We decided to start with her shoe and bag closet and jumped right into fully pulling out and sorting. (Ensuring Grace that it always gets worse before it gets better!) Next comes the editing! (decide keep, toss, donate). Right off the bat, Grace started off strong and got rid of one large trash bag of shoes! Now comes strategy and placement. We were so excited to put this closet back together as Grace’s collection of colorful shoes and gorgeous handbags are an organizers dream come true! We ended up sticking with a color scheme and mixing handbags in between. We also made sure to corral any other shoes and handbags around the house to ensure that they all had a home!

Next we worked on her small closet. We always tell clients that there’s no preparation needed before we come. This is because we like to see the space “as is” and see what’s working/what’s not working so that we can put the proper systems into place! When we started pulling out and sorting this closet, we noticed that tops, sweaters, jeans, and a few dresses were landing here, along with a mishmash of stuff on the bottom of the closet. We first like to make sense of what’s landing in an area to answer a few of our questions before we plan to move items elsewhere. That being said, we are asking a lot of questions throughout the editing process to really get to know you and your habits. Grace was already off to a good start by mostly using all felt hangers but we did end up switching the direction and order that her clothes were hanging so that she could see everything better!

Again, Grace did a phenomenal job editing – getting rid of what she no longer loved or wore and making space for new items to come in (as she does love to shop!). When putting this closet back together, we decided to get her ready for the winter season to come. We got out her winter boots and made her winter scarves easily accessible by using the new Laundress 6-Tier Cotton Hanging Organizer in White. (Grace’s favorite!) We also used a mixture of sizes of their new Storage Cubes in White (a Horderly favorite!) to contain the bottom of her closet and organize off season items like “swim” and “summer scarves”. We love how sturdy these bins are for longitivtiy, the label holders they have for easy identification, and handles for easy accessibility – not to mention their clean, sleek look!

“Containment is key” when it comes to getting organized. You will hear us say this often when putting systems into place. Having a category in your closet (or where ever it may be) contained, creates a specific home for that category to live which means it’s super easy to find that item and put it back! It also sets boundaries and limits. For example, once the bin of travel supplies starts overflowing, that means it’s time to go through and keep only “the best of the best”!

Lastly, we got into her makeshift closet which held coats, dresses, and blogging clothes mixed in. We edited and re-categorized. We ended up moving the dresses she had in her small closet to this closet as well, that way all dresses lived together. We sorted out “evening dresses” and put them in the new Laundress Cotton Hanging Dress Storage Bag in White. What we love so much about this bag is that it keeps clothes free of dust, moisture, and those possible critters. Grace has a beautiful collection of family heirlooms that we wanted to make sure we kept safe and preserved and this garment bag was the perfect way to go! It also has a small hanging rod inside of it so you don’t have to go through the trouble of fishing your hanger up out of the bag. We also sorted out a section of “clothes to shoot” for Grace’s blog.

All in all, Grace ended up donating so many trash bags full, we lost count! We are so proud of you Grace!
