You’re busy! Even remembering all the areas you need to clean can be a chore. Horderly is here to help! Below we’ve highlighted 6 often-forgotton areas in your home to help demystify the cleaning process and help you stay on your A-game!
Microwave

Microwaves are one of the most-used appliances in the kitchen, so why not give it the attention it deserves? Giving your microwave a wipe down weekly will help keep your kitchen feeling fresh, but if you have splatters of food stuck on, it might be time for a deep clean:
- First remove any larger food pieces that may have been left behind
- Fill a microwave-safe bowl with 1 cup of water, ¼ cup of vinegar, and a splash of Dawn dish soap
- Microwave for 3-5 minutes to help release any food particles stuck on the walls of your microwave
- Remove the bowl
- Wipe down your microwave with a cleaning towel
- Repeat monthly
Toaster Oven

While you’re in the kitchen, why not tick another appliance off your cleaning list- the toaster oven. This is a very important appliance to keep clean, because grease and food drippings on the heating component of your toaster can cause smoke and, in some cases, even fire. Keep your kitchen safe by deep cleaning your toaster oven once a month.
- Remove the wire rack and tray
- Strub both with Barkeeper’s friend and steel wool
- Rinse and let dry
- Vacuum and crumbs out of the body of the toaster
- Next take a damp cleaning towel with dawn dish soap and wipe out the inside and outside of the toaster
- Wrap your tray in tin foil for easy cleanup
- Repeat monthly for best results
Fridge

Spending a little time each week to clean out your fridge of old food will do wonders to help keep your fridge tidy and make things easier to find when you’re hungry. But once every few months it’s a great idea to give your fridge a deep clean to keep your food fresh.
- Work in sections to you can return food items to the fridge promptly
- Remove all food items from the door
- Wipe down with disinfectant and a cleaning rag or towel from top to bottom
- Once dry, return food items to door
- Remove all food items from drawers and shelves of the fridge
- Remove drawers and soak in sink with dawn dish soap in water
- Wipe down with disinfectant and a cleaning rag or towel from top to bottom
- Scrub off any stains on the drawers before rinsing and drying off with a clean towel
- Return drawers to the fridge
- Once dry, return all food items to the fridge shelves and drawers
TIP: This is a great time to check items for expiration dates and toss any passed-prime food!
