How to Shop Smarter This Holiday Season

It happens to the best of us — the holidays roll around, stores advertise “major” sales and we get suckered into buying things we don’t need!

Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale! Whether it’s for you, or holiday shopping for loved ones, there are strategic ways to shop smarter this Black Friday.

Here are some tips and tricks to protecting your wallet and limiting clutter at home:

Ask Questions

Before you buy, ask yourself a few simple questions:

  • Do I really need it?
  • Will I use it?
  • Will I regret this tomorrow?
  • Do I have anything better at home?

If you answered “no” to the first two questions, and admittedly may regret this purchase, hold off on buying it. If you are still thinking about it a month or two from now, then re-evaluate.

Make A List

It’s inevitable that you’ll need to shop this holiday season, but making a list and sticking to it will help you stay on track! If you don’t purchase what you’ve strategically put on your list, you’ll ensure that the purchases you’re making are intentional and have a purpose. This is helpful for both gift shopping, and grocery shopping!

Avoid Freebies

Oftentimes, shoppers get roped in by the promise of a freebie. But do you really need it? Probably not. Freebies are a marketing ploy to make an original product seem more enticing. Beauty brands do this a LOT. Will you really use that free mini body lotion? Skip the freebie and stick to your list!

Shop Intentionally

Instead of shopping impulsively, shop intentionally and do research online to see which stores have the best prices for what you need. It’s important to go to a store to get items you need, versus just wandering around a store and grabbing items you like. This will make your wallet happy, too! Get apps that will compare prices, download coupons, and more.
