Clutter-Free Wedding Gift Tips

Wedding season is in full swing! Here are some clutter-free gift tips to ensure you don’t burden your newlywed friends with too much stuff.

Stick To The Registry

If the couple has a registry, it’s usually best to stick to items on the registry (even if you don’t personally like the items on it). Remember, these are items that have been picked out personally by them and what they will actually need and will use!

Tip: As soon as you get the wedding invitation, go ahead and order a gift and put the wedding information in your calendar. This way it doesn’t even make it to your to-do list and you can toss the invite instead of adding it to your pile of paper clutter.

Don’t Personalize

Stay away from embroidered or personalized gifts. They might seem like an extra special gift to you but people tend to feel more obligated to keep these items when they were customized for them or they feel as if they need to keep it because it has their name on it – when they really don’t care for the item. Plus, they aren’t returnable!

Tip: Always be sure to include a gift receipt with whatever gift you decide to go with and don’t be offended or take it personally if you find out that the gift is returned or donated. Once the gift is given, it is up to them if they want to keep it or not!

Discuss The Gift

If you want to get the newlyweds a gift that isn’t on their registry or that is custom, don’t be afraid to bring it up to them to see if it’s something they want or need. Feel free to send them options or color preferences to choose from. A gift that is actually needed and wanted is much better than a surprise gift that isn’t!

Tip: If you’re wondering if a friend is going to like a gift you picked out, send them 3-5 options. If you send them one item and ask if they like it, they’ll be more likely to feel pressured to say yes. But, if you provide options and ask which is their favorite, they can at least choose their favorite!
