Spring has sprung and that means it’s time to get your household ready for spring weather and organized summer activities!

At Horderly, we love a good spring refresh – here are our favorite tips and tricks to get your home neat and tidy for the warmer months ahead:

Check-In On Your Cleaning Products

Before you get started, take inventory of your cleaning supplies – make note of what you use regularly, toss what’s expired or what you no longer use, and focus on using clean, healthy products to deep clean your home. Restock your stash if you need more cleaning supplies before starting your spring cleaning.

Prioritize What Needs Organizing

What areas in your home need the most work? Make a schedule to plan out cleaning time for each room in your home – you don’t have to do it all at once. Making it a priority will help you tackle these projects faster. Use one weekend day to tackle your kitchen, then your bathrooms, then bedrooms, then garage etc.

Refresh Your Appliances

Your appliances need a deep clean, too! Run white vinegar through your dishwasher to clean and disinfect, check and clean dryer ducts to make sure there’s no buildup or clogging, if you have a fireplace, schedule a chimney sweep to come perform annual maintenance.

Clean Your Pet’s Toys & More

Don’t forget to clean Fido’s bed, too! Spring is the perfect time to wash and disinfect any of your furbabies’ beds, blankets, and toys.

Clean Your Car, Too!

Now’s the time to give your car a nice wash, and deep clean the interior – pollen and pollution can build up over the year, so spring is the perfect time to give your car the attention it deserves. Cleaning your car regularly can also help increase its lifespan (especially if you’re making lots of trips to the beach this summer and exposing your car to heavy winds, sand, and saltwater).

Give Your Refrigerator a Scrub Down

Clean out your fridge completely – taking all items out and doing a good scrub of the interior. Now’s also a great time to refill and refresh your baking soda to eliminate odors. Before you put items back in the fridge, check expiration dates and toss anything expired or freeze items near expiration, if they can be frozen.

Don’t Forget Walls and Windows

It’s common to clean floors regularly, but how many of you are cleaning your walls on a regular basis? Probably not a lot of us! It’s important to spend time wiping down walls and both the interior and exterior of windows. Use a damp towel to wipe down walls and blinds (starting from the top). Remove and wipe down the window screens outside, or in the garage.

Spruce Up Your Mudroom and Garage

Your garage and mudroom get a lot of traffic over the winter, whether it be rain or snow boots or fall sports, mud, water, snow and more are trekked through these spaces. Spring is the perfect time to get out your vacuum and sweep and get rid of the grit and grime. Make your mudroom sparkly clean and set it up to accommodate you and your family’s spring and summer activities – put snow gear in storage and swap with pool accessories!

Remember – deep cleaning can unsettle a lot of winter dust and mites. If you have allergies or are using heavy-duty cleaners, protect yourself by wearing rubber gloves, masks, scarves, and even hairnets.
