5 Habits Organized People Live By

As organizing experts, our team has accumulated a top-notch list of habits that help us live more organized, restful, and productive lives. Today we’re sharing five of our favorite habits to enhance your routines and help you achieve your goals in 2025.

Make Your Bed

The first, and easiest habit we recommend implementing into your routine is making your bed every morning. While this is definitely an aesthetic improvement for any bedroom, making your bed has also been known to encourage better sleep! According to a National Sleep Foundation Poll, participants who reported regularly making their bed were 19% more likely to say they got a good night’s sleep. Not only will you feel more rested, but by making your bed first thing, you start your day off by accomplishing a task. This sends a dopamine response to your brain that will continue to motivate you to be more productive throughout the day!

Low Dopamine Morning Routine

A low dopamine morning routine involves starting the day with activities that minimize instant gratification, allowing the brain to rest its reward system. Instead of immediately reaching for your phone, consider focusing on calming and productive activities that benefit your wellbeing. This can include getting your first “dopamine hit” from making your bed as we mentioned above, doing a meditation, some light stretching, reading, or journaling. By avoiding quick dopamine spikes, you can improve focus, regulate your mood, and build resilience throughout the day. This approach fosters a sense of groundedness and can enhance productivity by encouraging intentional, mindful decision-making.

Create A Donation Zone

Having a place for donations is a great way to streamline the sometimes lengthy editing process of organizing. When you have a basket or bin already assigned for donations, you can purge clothing that no longer serves you as you do your laundry or get dressed in the morning. Doesn’t fit and makes you feel bad about your body? Toss it in the bin! Scratchy material that you know you will never want to wear? Toss it in the bin! Hate the color? Toss it in the bin! Items in your home pay rent with their usage, so it’s time to evict those pieces that have been skipping out on their payments!

TIP: Create a schedule for taking donations so you never have to think about when you “should” take them. Set a reminder on your phone to take your donations to Goodwill in a time frame that works for you! This could be annually, every four months, monthly- whatever fits your lifestyle!

End of Day Tidy

There is nothing less inspiring in the morning than waking up to a disheveled space. Try spending five to ten minutes tidying at night to ensure you wake up to an organized house! Imagine how good it will feel to see a dish-free sink when you come into your kitchen in the morning. If this feels overwhelming, keep it simple! Your nighttime routine can include things as quick and easy as folding your throw blanket, running the dishwasher, and wiping high-use counters. Create a short checklist to get the ball rolling by writing down the top 3 things that are most important to you for creating an inviting environment.

Outsource

You do not have to balance everything by yourself- it’s okay to ask for help!  This is why we have professional organizers, cleaning services, personal assistants, technicians etc. These professions exist to help get things off your plate if/when you are able to utilize them. And because we do this everyday, we are experts at coming up with customized solutions that suit our clients best. Whether a task is out of your area of expertise, or you simply have too much going on, outsource when you are able so you don’t burn yourself out!
